Samantha & Daniel's Birthday Party

HOPE I HAVE BETTER LUCK THIS TIME
The last child's birthday party didn't go so well, as I had broken my
left big toe, and I was somewhat skeptical about doing another child's
birthday party. But, I wasn't going to sit down for long and not ever do
another child's birthday party. Little was I planning on participating in
one so soon.
I had noticed in the Midwest Garrison forums that there was a child's
birthday party today (8/12), and I immediately noticed that it was less
than four miles away from where I live. I really didn't have anything
special planned for today, so I did reply back to the thread stating that
I would be attending this event. All I could hope for was that I wouldn't
hurt another part of my body in the process.
not your normal location for a party
As I already mentioned, I thought it was a little odd that the party
was going to be held at a YMCA. What I later learned is that the parents
invited the children to first go swimming in the YMCA's pool, and then
afterward it would be time to eat and open presents. I actually think that
was a pretty cool idea, now that I have had time to think about it a bit.
getting ready
The
first ones to arrive on the scene were Kathy and Quincy, followed by me,
Bob, Fitz and Jedi Jeff. It had been a long time since I had hung out with
Bob, so it was great seeing him again, even though he acts much more like
a brother to me (his smart ass ways) versus just being a friend. I had
just seen Kathy & Quincy the previous day.
I saw Fitz last at Wizard World and it was the first time I had ever met
Jeff. We had plenty of people to handle the children and adults of this
party.
So we ended up having one Jedi, Princess Leia, two clean stormtroopers
and two sandtroopers. We were ready to rock 'n roll, but had to wait a bit
so that the kids could get out of the pool and back in the room where the
party would end up. Once suited up and given the signal, it was time to
move into the next room where the party had already started. I was anxious
to get things rolling.
"quiet" is an understatement
When
we walked into the room where all the children and adults were at and they
all saw us, I really thought there was going to be some "ooohs" and "ahhhhs,"
but it was almost a dead silence. There was no noise whatsoever. I
couldn't believe how quiet it was in there. No one screamed with
excitement at all, and I would have thought the kids would have gone crazy
over seeing us. I only can suppose that seeing "the real deal" in person
would be a little overwhelming to a child, and I'm sure that is why it was
so quiet in that room. Shortly after entering the main room people started
talking again and acting more normal, but overall it was still pretty
quiet in there.
Pictures were taken with us, food was eaten (pizza and cake), and
presents were opened. I do believe that both Samantha and Daniel had a
really good time having us there, but I think the parents enjoyed it much
more than the children. That's okay, since we're all children in our own
ways.
